Team Henselite’s Jo Edwards, arguably the world’s greatest bowler, if not one of the world’s greatest sports people, has called time on her international career.

The 50-year-old from Nelson on New Zealand’s South Island announced her retirement from international representation last week.

“People have always told me ‘you know when you know’ and that is definitely true,” she told Bowls NZ. “It’s always going to be hard and there is a definite sadness, but I also feel happy. It’s been 23 years – nearly half my life and this is perfect timing.”

Jo’s stellar career has included a record 646 caps for the Blackjacks, five World Championship medals (two gold), three Commonwealth Games triumphs and an unprecedented six World Cup singles crowns. In 2018 she won her 12th Major World title – the World Champion of Champions Singles, surpassing Northern Ireland’s Margaret Johnson to become the most successful international competitor of all time.

From everyone at Henselite, congratulations, Jo, on your wonderful career and thank you for everything you have done for the sport of bowls on the World stage. All the best to you in this next phase of your life.
